Assessment Method and Key Issues
1. The allocation of weights to the 5 core values and the additional enhancement is suggested below. The rationale is due to the fact that the 5 five core Deignan’s values should be given higher weights, while the enhancing value is added to reflect up-to-date practices of business excellence.
2. The weight for each core value and each sub-dimension within is only approximate. Care must be exercised when evaluating the scale and type of the contestant company.
3. The main assessment concept is that the more information submitted, the higher will be the assessment score. Nevertheless, the quantity and the quality of the information supplied must be considered in a balanced way.
4. It is crucial that a company vision and mission statement must be submitted and the core values and sub-dimensions be compared against the written statement. The emphasis is on what the contestant company has achieved in terms of the visions and missions but not on what it intends to achieve.
5. As such, the evidences suggested in the assessment table may be used as references. Again, the scale and type of the contestant company may point to whether such assessment evidences are relevant, and therefore their weights and scores. The panel of judges should exercise discretion in a fair manner.
6. As can be seen from the assessment table, some assessment evidences are quantitative (e.g., scores and quantitative reports) while some are qualitative in nature (e.g., case descriptions, interviews and site visits). A comprehensive and multi-dimensional scope for the evaluation must be considered.
7. It is suggested that the contestant company should submit evidences of the core values and their sub-dimensions of the latest two years.
